All teachers are fluent in German with degrees in Psychology, Early Childhood Education and foreign language teaching.

Nadja Penry

PRINCIPAl & OWNER

  • Founder of the ABC German School
  • MA in Education with majors in Russian and English (ESL) from the University of Brandenburg, Potsdam, Germany, 1990
  • Studies included courses at the Russian Language Institute in Moscow, Russia and the University of Washington, Seattle
  • Teaching experience includes ESL classes for Russian speaking students, teacher of college level German and Russian language courses, lecturer for the WAFLT association, former teacher and principal of the Saturday German School, teacher of German for all skill levels and age groups from K-12
  • Raised two children German speaking, now using their language skills in their professions or internships respectively
  • Member of the Association of Teachers of German (AATG) and the Washington Association of Foreign Language Teachers (WAFLT)
  • Enjoys frequent Travel and Tango dancing
  • Active outdoor enthusiast in the beautiful Pacific NW

Anne Jaeger

Assistant Principal

  • MA in Education with majors in History and Russian Language from Teacher’s College Dresden, Germany
  • Certified Special Education Teacher from Academy of Special Education, Munich, Germany, 1994
  • Taught at elementary and middle schools as well as at schools for children with special needs in Germany
  • Worked as therapeutic teacher at the Institute for Early Childhood Development Freising, Germany
  • Taught Kindergarten – 7th grade classes at Eastside German Language School, Bellevue, and a preschool class at Seattle Area German American School
  • Provided private German lessons at Sponge Language School, Kirkland
  • Worked as Paraeducator /IA for Lake Washington School District
  • Has been a teacher at ABC German School since 2002
  • Member of the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG)
  • Mother of two grownup sons, who were raised bilingual
  • Enjoys cooking, art and traveling

Sabrina Chaney

Afterschool Care Coordinator

  • Born and raised in Stuttgart, Germany in a German/Colombian household
  • Graduated in 2013 from ‘Gymnasium Internationaler Bund Stuttgart’ with focus on social sciences and educational sciences
  • Experience in tutoring students in both German and English
  • Frequently babysat children for private households
  • Moved to the United States in 2016 with her husband
  • Most recently worked as a manager for a local pet supply store
  • Experience caring for many different animals
  • Loves to travel and try new things

Ute Straub

  • Masters in Education with majors in Biology and English Language
  • Graduated from EWF Nuernberg (University), Germany in 1997
  • Taught 5th – 9th grade at Luitpoldschule (Middle School), Ansbach, 1997-1999
  • Worked as a Language teacher for ABCollege (Language School) in Ansbach (children’s English, Business English, tutor for all subjects), 1999-2003
  • Moved to NC, USA, 2005-2008; taught children conversational German
  • Lived in Germany, Burgbernheim, 2008-2015; worked at HS (Middle School)  Burgbernheim (homework assistance and school projects)
  • Moved to WA, USA 2015 with her husband and two boys
  • Enjoys spending time with family, likes animals, nature and painting

Katrin Thorn

  • Certified Pediatric Nurse since 2006, Klinikum Bremen Mitte Hospital, Germany
  • Worked in the Emergency Ambulance and the kids operation room theater
  • Crewed on Board a Privatluxursyacht as a Nurse/Stewardess
  • Worked for several years as a Nanny for a private family
  • STARS Training Certificate (Training for Washington State Child Care Professions)
  • Worked at the ABC German school from 2014 until 2018 as a Preschool Educator
  • Yoga Alliance certified Yoga Teacher and Kids Yoga Instructor
  • Pre and Postnatal Fitness Instructor
  • Lives since 2010 with her husband and two young sons in Medina, at home – they speak German and English
  • Passionate about learning, cooking, traveling and enjoying the beautiful Pacific Northwest
  • Also loving the simple things in life which includes plenty of quality time with the family, including their two crazy Border Collies

Simone Williams

  • Graduated from Berufskolleg Bachstrasse in Düsseldorf with an associate degree as a travel agent 
  • Moved to the US in 2003 and lived in Los Angeles for eight years where she worked as a German nanny and tutor for children ages 0-8
  • Moved to Washington with her husband and son in 2011
  • Experience as a German localizer for eight years and later managed a team of localizers from around the world 
  • Worked at her son’s preschool Kirkland Co-Op  
  • German teacher for second grade at EGLS in Bellevue
  • Simone loves spending time with her husband and two bilingual sons, playing badminton, going roller blading, swimming and playing board and card games
  • She likes to read and write, meet up with friends and explore new places

Sabine Sullivan

  • Born and raised in Stuttgart, Germany
  • Received certification as a management assistant in wholesale and foreign trade (Kauffrau im Groß- und Außenhandel) from the IHK in Stuttgart
  • Moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1995 with her husband where she worked for international companies
  • Moved to Seattle, Washington, in 2003
  • After her daughter was born in the same year, Sabine decided to combine her love of languages and previous work experience and completed a translation certificate program at Bellevue College
  • Has been working as a freelance translator since 2007
  • Started teaching beginner and intermediate German classes for adults at Eastside German Language School, Bellevue, in 2016
  • Sabine loves horses, reading and going on hikes with the family dog

Bernadette Dosa

  • Born and grew up in Hungary
  • BA in Teaching German, MA in German Language and Literature, and studies in Special Needs Education, ELTE Budapest, Hungary
  • BA in German Translator and Interpreter, Technical University Budapest, Hungary
  • Taught German in high schools in Hungary
  • Worked as an HR Consultant for IBM Hungary and other office related jobs
  • Taught German in person and online for the Berlitz Corporation (2015)
  • Focused on Early Childhood Education
  • Worked as an Assistant Teacher at Evergreen Academy Montessori Preschool in Bothell, WA
  • STARS Training Certificate (Training for Washington State Child Care Professions)
  • Moved to Washington in 2011 with her family. Mother of 3 children ranging from preschooler to University student
  • Experiences abroad include Hamburg (Germany), Strasbourg (France), Greater Boston area (MA, USA) and Bangalore (India)
  • Volunteer librarian for the Hungarian American Association of Washington
  • Enjoys reading, languages, teaching, art, hiking and gardening

Sira Levesque 

  • Born and raised in Bremen, Germany
  • Worked as a babysitter for private households for 10 years
  • Completed a voluntary social year in a daycare
  • Studied primary school teaching at the University of Bremen
  • Graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 2018
  • Was an au pair in Seattle before moving there in 2018
  • Lives with her husband and her 2 children, who grow up bilingual (German & English) in Carnation, WA
  • Loves to read, travel and the outdoors

Shirin Niami

  • Grew up tri-lingual (German, Farsi and English) in a mostly German speaking household and completed the German Abitur at the German School of Tehran
  • Received BS in Business Administration from Pepperdine University in Malibu
  • Experience in teaching and tutoring German for more than 20 years at various German Schools in the Seattle area
  • Languages are one of her great passions
  • Lives with her fiance, a dog and 2 cats
  • Has a daughter who lives in Los Angeles
  • Loves to take walks with the dog, spending quality time with good friends and cooking

Mai-Kirsi Meissner

  • Graduated from IULM, University of Languages and Communication of Milan, Italy
  • MA in Foreign Languages and Literature (Major in German Language and Literature)
  • Taught German language and literature in different public and private High and Middle Schools in Pavia, Italy (1992-2000)
  • German teacher at the ISU of the University of Pavia, Italy
  • Teaching experiences for language schools, translations for private and public companies (German, Italian)
  • Moved to the U.S. in 2004 with her husband and 2 children, where she worked as a substitute teacher for all school levels for the Acton Public School District, Massachusetts
  • Mai-Kirsi moved to Washington in summer of 2008 and enjoys running, swimming and gardening
  • She lives with her husband and loves to visit her 2 grown children, who live out of state
